Hey there, fellow travel aficionados! It’s your jet-setting, empty-nester coming at you with another exciting travel adventure. This week, I joined my United pilot hubby for a whirlwind trip from our base in Houston, Texas, to the stunning cities of Denver and Salt Lake City.

A Tight Connection in Denver
Our adventure kicked off as my hubby’s day started early. I met up with him at Denver International Airport, ready for our next destination. Our flights were parked at opposite ends of the B terminal, but thanks to the handy underground train, we quickly zipped over to the A terminal. Travel tip: comfy shoes for navigating large airports are a must!

Flying with the Captain to Salt Lake City
Our short flight to Salt Lake City had an exciting twist – my hubby was the Captain! It’s always a treat to be in the hands of an experienced pilot. Plus, the views as we descended over the stunning mountainous landscape were nothing short of breathtaking.

Salt Lake City: A City of Size and Serenity
Salt Lake City International Airport greeted us with its sheer size, especially when we trekked from the United gates to ground transportation. Thankfully, a quick hotel shuttle whisked us away into town, where we stayed at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Center.
Sheraton Salt Lake City Center: Location and Luxury
Our hotel, the Sheraton Salt Lake City Center, was ideally located in the heart of the city, making it a perfect base for our explorations. The hotel offered all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay, from cozy beds to a fitness center to stay active and a heated outdoor pool for a refreshing dip.

Squatters Pub: A Tasty Late-Night Find
Arriving late, we were famished, but the hotel’s bar and restaurant had already closed. No worries, though, as the friendly concierge pointed us in the direction of Squatters Pub. This local gem did not disappoint, and I we shared the most amazing chicken Thai curry soup & chicken taco plate that warmed my soul on that chilly evening.

Early Morning Exploration
We rose early to make the most of our limited time in Salt Lake City. First on the agenda was breakfast at The Rose Establishment, a charming eatery known for its fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The Turkish eggs were a light & healthy choice that packed a lot of flavor. The rustic atmosphere was a perfect start to our day.

The Grand Hotel: A Toast to Adventure
A short walk from breakfast led us to The Grand Hotel, where I enjoyed a glass of champagne. With our spirits high, we set off to explore Salt Lake City.

Exploring Salt Lake City: Sights and Delights
Salt Lake City is a city of serene beauty and a vibrant arts scene. The Capitol Building, with its neoclassical architecture, is a must-see, and don’t miss the nearby City and County Building with its ornate details. This time of the year, the leaves were just beautiful shades of fall colors!

If you’re a history buff like me, the Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail and the Beehive House provide fascinating insights into the city’s history.

Nearby Attractions: Nature’s Bounty
Salt Lake City is a gateway to incredible outdoor adventures. If you have extra time, consider day excursions to the nearby national parks, including Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Arches.
Foodie’s Paradise
Food lovers, rejoice! Salt Lake City offers a diverse culinary scene. Local favorites include Red Iguana for mouthwatering Mexican fare and Takashi for delectable sushi.
Nap Time and Onward to Newark
After a day of exploration, we headed back to the hotel for a well-deserved nap before our redeye flight to Newark, New Jersey, our next destination.

Our whirlwind adventure in Denver and Salt Lake City was a perfect blend of fun and informative exploration. From bustling city streets to serene natural wonders, we soaked it all in. Until the next adventure, my fellow travelers! ✈️🌆🏞️🍴🥂
