Renovation dust has a way of shrinking a house. What started as a manageable project quickly had us—and the dog—feeling cooped up between the bedroom and the study. When it became clear we needed air, space, and a reset, we did what we do best: booked a last-minute staycation.
Hotel ZaZa Museum District was the obvious answer. It’s close, indulgent, and—crucially—pet friendly. Anya was just as ready for a change of scenery as we were.

As always, Daisy Lopez took incredible care of us and surprised us with an upgrade to a SoHo Suite. If you’ve stayed at ZaZa before, you know their Concept Suites are part of what sets the property apart—each one thoughtfully designed with its own personality, mood, and sense of drama. The SoHo Suite delivered exactly that: spacious, beautifully styled, and filled with natural light and city views that immediately made the renovation chaos feel very far away.

Houston decided to cooperate, too. The weather was unusually pleasant, which meant pool time. We spent the afternoon poolside while Anya lounged like she owned the place—calm, curious, and completely at home. The hotel itself was buzzing, with two weddings bringing a celebratory energy that made the entire property feel alive.

Dinner was at Monarch, and it did not disappoint. When we returned to the suite afterward, a chilled bottle of Veuve Clicquot was waiting for us—one of those small, thoughtful touches that ZaZa does so well.

We slept in the next morning on one of the most comfortable beds imaginable. The room temperature was perfectly cool (a non-negotiable for us), and I took full advantage of the oversized tub for a long, relaxing soak. Exactly what we needed.

After checkout, we stretched the escape just a bit longer with lunch at Cyclone Anaya before heading back to… renovation reality.
Short stay. Big reset. Sometimes one night is all it takes to breathe again—and Hotel ZaZa Museum District remains one of our favorite places in Houston to do exactly that.
