Wanderlusting Wifey: Quick Layover Magic in Bogotá, Colombia

When your pilot hubby has a long layover in Bogotá, you pack a bag, grab your passport, and hop on the flight—because why sit at home when adventure calls? We turned a quick stop in the Colombian capital into a whirlwind of food, views, and fun. Here’s the scoop.

Home Base: JW Marriott Bogotá

First stop: the JW Marriott Bogotá. This place is luxury with a capital “L.” It’s in Chapinero, a super nice part of town that’s safe and close to all the action. The hotel staff treated us like VIPs from the second we walked in (probably helps that it’s a favorite for airline crews!).

Our room was spacious and comfy, with a bed so plush I could’ve hibernated. The hotel has a spa, an indoor pool, and a gym, but let’s be honest—we were more interested in exploring than working out. If you’re ever in Bogotá, this hotel is a perfect spot to land.

Quick Bogotá Vibes

Bogotá sits high in the Andes, which means stunning mountain views everywhere you look. It’s a city that buzzes with life—colorful murals, bustling streets, and just enough altitude to make you feel like you’ve done a workout (or maybe that’s just me pretending the short walk from the hotel was cardio).

Getting around was a breeze with Uber. It’s safe, easy, and cheap. Plus, the drivers are super friendly and gave us tips on local spots to check out.

Lunch Goals: Astoria Rooftop

Lunchtime took us to Astoria Rooftop in Zona G, aka Bogotá’s foodie heaven. This rooftop gem is gorgeous—think leafy greenery, sleek decor, and skyline views that make you forget you’re in a bustling city.

The food? Chef’s kiss. We shared the Ceviche Nikkei, a ceviche made with white fish, octopus, shrimp, mango & tigers milk. Pro tip: Order the tres leches cake. You’ll thank me later.

Dinner Dreams: Harry Sasson

For dinner, we strolled over to Harry Sasson, one of Bogotá’s most famous restaurants, just a short walk from the JW. The vibe here is spot-on—chic but not stuffy, with a buzzing bar scene that we couldn’t resist. Bar seating turned out to be the move, giving us a front-row seat to the cocktail magic happening behind the counter.

The food? Incredible. We kicked things off with arepas (simple but delicious) and followed with steak for him and sea bass for me. Both dishes were melt-in-your-mouth amazing. We wrapped it up with churros and chocolate because, well, dessert is life.

Layover Takeaway

Bogotá might’ve just been a pit stop, but it packed a punch. From the JW Marriott’s cozy luxury to unforgettable meals at Astoria Rooftop and Harry Sasson, we made every hour count.

If you’ve got a layover in Bogotá, don’t just sit in the airport—get out there and explore. This city is full of surprises, and I already can’t wait to come back for round two.

Until next time,

Wanderlusting Wifey
